Welcome to the new blog for Nimirien Books, an ambitious publishing venture centered around the creation of text and images for use in role-playing games. My name is Autumn Getty, and I’m excited to be taking this new step. I’m also a published poet.
My interest in role-playing games started back in the Toronto of my youth. One morning while riding the subway home from school, I saw a couple boys excitedly chattering away over a book that had a desert (complete with pyramid!) on its cover. Having a love of ancient history, I was intrigued, and saw the Dungeons and Dragons title on its cover.
Being an avid reader, I had heard of the game before, and now I really wanted to play. It wasn’t till a few years later, after my family had moved to Hamilton, that I met someone who was interested as well. The two of us began playing, alternating between player and dm. After a little while, we brought in some other friends, and we were hooked.
I quickly became obsessed with the worldbuilding aspect of the game. My first attempt was a small continent that was based on the shape of China. I created a very extensive mythology that ran around twenty pages and incorporated many of the ancient religions, particularly the Babylonian pantheon. And I created all kinds of crazy stories, my favorite of which was an imprisoned goddess being held in a temple.
These interests led me to study archaeology at university, and to cultivate my love of both the ancient world and literature. In the past few years, I have become interested in worldbuilding once again, and have developed a keen interest in fantasy cartography.
Under the Nimirien Books line, I will be producing maps and adventures for Fifth Edition role-players, and hope to produce some things for other role-playing games as well. The maps will include worlds, regions, dungeons and interiors for medieval buildings. I hope you’ll join me on this new adventure!
