The Temple of the Three Shrines

An important element of worldbuilding is developing buildings centered around characters, and in role playing games this can be taken care of ahead of time by creating structures for different character classes.

In my current campaign, I have a character who is a paladin/monk, and I wanted to have a temple for him to become attached to. Looking around the internet, I found an image of an old Babylonian temple that was separated into three different shrines. I had hoped to reproduce it here, but I can’t seem to find it again.

I made my own variation on the temple:

The idea was to have a main shrine for worshippers, a simpler shrine for monks, and a memorial shrine for a departed hero of the faith. The temple forms a centerpiece of the village, which developed around a mine.

I’m planning to develop a series of floorplan maps for interiors. I think they’re useful not only for GMs who like to use miniatures, but also as a great way to communicate details about the setting visually through handouts.

If you like the temple and would like a free floorplan to use in your games, head over to my Patreon and pick it up: https://www.patreon.com/nimirienbooks
